Some of you , dear Gizmodo reader , have lovely families who lionise the vacation with Hallmarkian hardness . Others … don’t you bring in that canal tape recording was n’t meant for rim ?
Lead Shot – Telechristmas
The tv camera is a Logitech Communicator STX , posture atop a Powerbook G4 , unorthodox , I know . Being that my household is a bit scattered decent now- parents in southern California and sister & her hubby in Tennessee , with myself in Northern California , the only way we were going to take a family portrait was to try our hand at a video conference- and then take a screen capture of all our smiling faces . Even that seemingly simple technical feat was more or less out of reach , as we fight to get 3 different grades of hardware and software to touch up , so , in the end , I combined a video chat windowpane of my parents & the family dog with one of my sister & brother - in - law . I would have loved to engineer the whole family together with my DSLR , but this was a fun style to [ taste to ] get the family together . Maybe next class !

Ornamental Celebration
get bore so I started taking pictures of my parents Christmas tree . I notice each kinfolk member had their own Snowman ornament so I group them together to take a very informal kinfolk portrayal , if it can be phone that . Camera : Canon T2i , Canon 18 - 55 mm , 1/10 , f/5.0 , ISO 1250 .

Laptop Love

A Very Simpsons Christmas
I used my Canon PowerShot SD880 IS precariously clamp to the entertainment center using my Gorilla gorilla tripod . The poor lighting condition was carry through by pointing two storey lamps in our general direction . The Simpsons were the principal inspiration for the shoot . We want to do something untraditional for the Christmas cards this yr , so we found some rockin ’ Christmas sweaters and this was the result .

Christmas, Unplugged
I amount from an artsy - fartsy family of actors and musicians , so I knew I had to capture that spirit in this challenge . When my dada and sister startle swinge carols after Christmas dinner , I separate my ma to fall in in . My momma keep a small mirror on our grand piano for when she instruct voice object lesson , so I angle it to get myself in the shot . The room did n’t have much visible radiation , so I fired away and prayed . Most of the guess were pretty fuzzy since they ’re such animated citizenry and could n’t model still . This one was the good : my kinsfolk in their unmitigated build . Nikon D70 , Nikkor 24 - 120 zoom @ 45 mm , ISO 800 , F 4.5 , 1/8 shutter ( shoot on A - P to keep my iris diaphragm candid ) .

I had my tri - pod and remote , but not much else , so I determine to copy : Riffian of of a Norman Rockwell classic . I set my tri - pod on a coffee table , and rupture a few picture as my mother - in - jurisprudence serve the knock bitch . I call back it has a mother wit of humor , and captures our holiday experience well . In the picture from pass on to right are my sister - in - law , my father - in - law , female parent - in - law , me , and my wife . Canon 300D , 28 - 135 IS electron lens , f/3.5 , ISO 400 .

Some Facetime
This shot was taken on Christmas evening around 6:45 in a dimly - illume support room . Three generations of Zingers gathered on the lounge in Rhode Island to video chat with ( Logos , brother , uncle ) Morgan out in Oakland , CA . I was struck by how everyone was sit on the sofa in typical crime syndicate portrait positions , and how Morgan was really on the couch too even though he did n’t make it home this year . Instead of smile at the photographer ’s camera , they ’re all smiling at the built - in on the laptop . I took several of these some of which are technically better , but this one felt the most genuine to the moment . Canon S95 , Av Mode , Aperture f/3.2 ISO 1600 . Colors warm up up and photos sharpened in Lightroom . Merry Merry !

Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree
The story is that we took one normal family picture in front of the Christmas tree with my blade spanking new dslr and realized that shot would n’t make it on to gizmodo , so we make up one’s mind to put our best rock’n roll face on and spice up it up a little . canyon Rebel Xs , EF - S18 - 55 mm , ISO 800 , Exposure 1/13 sec at f/4.0 . bemuse everything but the kitchen drop at it in photoshop , but mainly buffer it up a niggling .

Dogs In Snow
My family portrayal is of my boys being son in the Holiday Blizzard ! Arrow ( the Eskimo dog ) loves hopping around in the Charles Percy Snow , and show Henrik ( mut puppy ) how it ’s done in his first snowstorm .

Don’t Look Now!
This started out as a legitimate endeavor to take a house Christmas photo . But neither of the kid want to join forces and and look at the television camera . So I paint a picture nobody await at the camera . The tiddler actually thought this was merriment and forgot about not wanting their picture take !

Mustache
I wanted to take a family exposure for my parent as we had n’t contract one in a long clip . Thanks to some curtains and lights from IKEA , we headed to my Dad ’s storage warehouse to gather a photo studio . While we did take a serious picture before this ( for my ma ) , we thought that my Dad would relish something a small more upbeat . My sister suggested we flip on some mustache for one of the final shot . As a outcome , we have the “ I do n’t want to be here ” look : all important for any family line photo . Canon T2i , f/1.8 , 1/20 , ISO 100 , 50 mm 1.8 lens .

Winner – Man Vs. Martini
This was our annual family / christmas portrait . I am the man being carried away as my wife enjoys her martini ! This was our christmas card to our friend and famiy . The picture was taking w/ an Olimbos sp-550uz the specs are F3 1/40 & iso around 2000 . Then using picnik , I just enhanced the shadow . The television camera was set using view for low lighting , I have no idea what the specs are . I hope you savor !
