WINNER – Cloud Bomb

Last hebdomad a pal from El Paso came into townspeople and we went out around my locality in Austin , TX with my Nikon film tv camera to take some pictures . I sleep with shoot motion-picture show for many reason . Film has a quality about it that I ca n’t rest away from . It also forces this delayed gratification conception that myself , at 22 , am at a constant struggle with . I do n’t own a digital camera – just my spot and shoot Nikon .

For this scene – I saw this Brobdingnagian thunderhead make grow far off over the horizon . I was on a soar lens and I knew it would look epical if I zoomed in to constrict the infinite . I had no idea how epic it would bend out . I was able to seize just after sundown at dusk . I fell in love with this motion-picture show because my friend is looking back to see all the stage of lucky hr in a massive thunderhead / nuclear bomb calorimeter . I was in all likelihood shooting around f5.6 on a 135 millimetre lens . Fugifilm 400 hurrying Supera cinema . This seizure was a personal best for me , and I ca n’t wait to top it !

Shades of Gray

So I get out and bought a flash - oxygen polarizing filter this calendar week on gizmodo ’s proffer and this shot was taken when I was fiddle around with how to use the filter . It ’s awesome how a quarter - spell of the filter can change the pic . This is a blastoff of Catalina Island off the Southern California sea-coast . I thought the photo worked as the island looks like a swarm too . My wife guess it ended up look like a teras : the island , its oral cavity ; and the clouds , its eye . I bring a lot of photos of clouds this week and I went with this one as it was a footling dissimilar from the “ standard ” cloud photo . canyon EOS REBEL T1i , EF - S18 - 55 mm f/3.5 - 5.6 IS Lens with CPL filter , 1/125 , f/13 , 55 millimetre , ISO 100 , 0 EV .

Clouds in Oil

Midway through 45 degree * Celsius * day , I naturally figure we would expect to see a fairly nice scant show in the evening , as this is usually the causa when we have such blistering humid Day here in Ottawa . I checked the weather radar , and sure enough enough , a beast of a violent storm was approaching . At the speed it was moving , it looked like I had about 2 hours until it would get ( I work Sundays , so this took a chip of preparation ) . I made certain to push my last 15 minute break far enough that I would catch this monster rolling in .

At about 7:20 local time , I went outside to see this churning monster moving in , followed by 140 Km / h sustained gusts , a dust violent storm in the face , and rainfall that felt like hummer . All in all it lasted about 15 minutes . I also learned about 5 minutes later that the Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest main stagecoach collapsed due to the large winding , with Cheap Trick mid - operation . No one was wound , but it was quite perturbing seeing as a brace of years ago , I live in Alberta and was around for another one of these freak violent storm that knocked down the Big Valley Jamboree stage and killed someone .

In regards to the picture show , I did n’t have my 40D with me at work , so I grabbed my iPhone 4 and snapped a few ikon . It was set on HDR , and this is the HDR shot , which was WAY cooler looking than the lifelike one . However , the haphazardness on the picture was outrageous , so I plugged it into Lightroom and crank up up the stochasticity reduction . That was the only modification I made .

Suddenly someone in the front was yelling out my name and state me to pull out the tv camera and take exception me to shoot this pic . I was still drowsy and was still scratching my eye as we were speeding along at 60 miles per hour down the Interstate 15 ( San Bernardino Desert ) . Whip out the camera locked through the viewfinder and snapped 2 shot through the windowpane . One in landscape and one in portrayal . fragile cropping to take out the automobile ’s window sill . To my shock it really came out !

My married woman and I were having dinner and we spotted part of the rainbow from our flat windowpane . I give out out on the balcony . In a few second base rainbow completed itself .
