“Thank you for those who have been there for me and have believed in me my whole career. Dan Michael, my brother Jonah, my family,” he said before acknowledging Thomas.
“And the incredible Emma Thomas - producer of all our films and all our children. I love you,” he said. “And to the Academy, just to say movies are just a little bit over 100 years old. I mean, imagine being there 100 years into painting or theater.”
“We don’t know where this incredible journey is going from here, but to know that you think that I am a meaningful part of it means the world to me,” he concluded. “Thank you very much.”

About the box-office success and nominations, Nolan previouslytold The Associated Press, “I grew up loving Hollywood movies and believing studio filmmaking can take on anything. Seeing audiences respond to that this summer was incredibly thrilling and getting this kind of recognition from the Academy, I don’t know what to say, really. It certainly confirms our faith in what studio filmmaking can be.”
The filmmaker added, “I grew up watching the Academy Awards. It’s the pinnacle of sort of the recognition of your peers.”

Her latest film,Anatomy of a Fall, follows Oscar-nominated actress Sandra Hüller as she stands on trial for her husband’s murder. The courtroom drama won the Palme d’Or at last year’sCannes Film Festivaland — in addition to her Best Director nod — gave Triet a nomination for Best Original Screenplay.

Glazer, 58, makes his debut at the Oscars with two nominations for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.
The writer-director’sZone of Interestdepicts a Nazi officer’s family living just outside the Auschwitz concentration camp during the Holocaust. Starring Hüller and Christian Friedel as Hedwig and Rudolf Höss, the film has earned several accolades this season, such as outstanding British film at the BAFTAs. At this year’s Oscars, the historical drama based on Martin Amis’ 2014 novel has a total of five nominations.
