André Nemec , the showrunner for Netflix ’s forthcoming live - activeness adaption of the monstrously popular1998 anime seriesCowboy Bebop , has say many times that fans should n’t expect his show to be aone - to - one remakeof the original . That was copiously unmortgaged when the firstCowboy Bebop trailerdropped this week , which wasrecognizably Bebop , but offered glimpses of some of those small changes will annoy nitpicky fans and likely no one else . But now Nemec has bring out what is perhaps the most important change to the Modern show .
In an audience withSyfy , Nemec said the show ’s “ aged - up feel ” was quite intentional , and for good intellect . He calls the anime ’s character reference “ a small archetypal , ” and he ’s exactly right . It does n’t do the anime any trauma and it ’s appropriate for the sensitive , but a live - activity serial publication required adding a bit of depth to Spike Spiegel ( John Cho ) , Jet Black ( Mustafa Shakir ) , and Faye Valentine ( Daniella Pineda ): “ I consider that really became clear to me that to really find for these characters , to really want to pass over and live with them , they needed material depth of aliveness experience in their soul . ”
But the gum anime still provided the route map for what those expanded experiences would be : “ Spike Spiegel is a cowboy with a rugged center , that really is who he is at his core . Jet Black is the endless optimist , a ill-tempered guy rope with a heart of jelly dome . Faye Valentine , at her core group , is a survivor . Someone who is not cash in one’s chips to countenance the hardships of the world around her , while they test to keep kick her down , she continues to press forward . We looked at all of these things . And once we had those , we then set out to craft report for these characters . ”

It ’s as Nemec has say before , it ’s all about go on honest to “ the intent ” of the original gum anime . Of course , how much succeeder he had keep unfeigned stiff to be seen until November 19 , when Cowboy Bebop premieres on Netflix .
