Scientists have suggested that a dark matter “ hurricane ” might be making its style past the Sun , and it could be perceptible here on Earth .

Published inPhysical Review D , the written report led by Ciaran O’Hare from the University of Zaragoza in Spain looked at a solicitation of nearby stars move in the same direction known as the S1 stream . These are “ believed to be the   remnant[s ] of a dwarf coltsfoot that was swallow by the Milky Way billions of age ago , ” astatementfrom APS Physics take down .

The S1 stream consisting of 30,000 stars was found last year by ESA ’s Gaia satellite , which is map a billion star in our galaxy . About 30 such streams have been institute in our galaxy , each the remnant of a previous collision .

S1 is particularly interesting , however , in that it is presently “ fuck up ” past us at about 500 kilometers ( 310 mile ) per secondly . And the researchers say that this may farm obtrusive personal effects on the dark matter near us .

“ Current sensor look for weakly interacting monumental particles ( WIMPs ) – one wide discourse form of glum matter – probably wo n’t see any impression from S1 , ” the statement noted , “ but future WIMP sensor might . ”

All galaxies are thought to have formed inside a large halo of dark issue , which we ca n’t see and does n’t interact with normal issue . But the research worker take down that about 10 billion solar pile of dark matter –   follow from the original dwarf galax – was locomote along S1 .

“ As the S1 current ‘ hits the Solar System smacking in the face ’ , the author write , its counter - rotating construction will dramatically increase the amount of dismal issue appear to derive from the same patch of sky as the received obscure topic hint , ” reportsCosmos Magazine .

“ Indeed , it should produce a tell - tale ‘ ring’-like structure around this air current , something that guiding dark thing detectors …   could easily detect in future . ”

ScienceAlertalso noted that it might be possible to discover axions from the watercourse , which are theoretical molecule 500 million times lighter than an negatron that could constitute dark issue . “ [ T]hese ultralight particles –   which we ca n’t see –   could be convert to photon which we   can   see , in the presence of a strong charismatic subject , ” they said .

No direct detection of dark matter has ever been made , despite numerous exploit . But perhaps this “ hurricane ” will provide an intriguing opportunity to do so .
