This morning we gotour first good look at The Gifted , Marvel and Fox ’s new TV serial about a house on the outpouring from an anti - mutant government taskforce . And while a lot of what the show has in store is being kept under wraps , the trailer has a few hints about the country of mutant - kind in this raw show , and none of them particularly promising .
The lagger open with a young cleaning woman assail a constabulary officer , while a shady government officer secern her that she ’s a “ troubled new woman ” and he ’s there to help her …
… which cuts to a blastoff of sound out young charwoman , encased in a gargantuan plastic bagful and her hair removed for some sort of implant . Thanks to a recent Instagram mail from Bryan Singer — who took a rupture from the X - Men flick to help convey The Gifted to life — we live this cleaning lady isactually Polaris ( Emma Dumont ) , a longtime fellow member of the wider 10 - Men team . Real name Lorna Dane , Polaris is actually a child of Magneto ’s in the comics and share his powers of magnetism , which we see a few time in this trailer as she move elevator car around and stop heater .

The trailer later unwrap this suitable man is actually Stephen Moyer , one of the principal members of the roll , playing a character call Reed Strucker , a father of mutant child who has to go on the run to keep his family safe . So it seems like , before identify his children were mutants , Reed ’s job was hunt down them down and immure them .
Speaking of those kids : Lauren ( Natalie Alyn Lind ) and Andy ( Percy Hynes White ) seem to be at some kind of motel , so this is presumably after they go on the run . Lauren explains her power to her youthful sidekick as being able to manipulate air molecules and other constituent , and “ push them together ” at will . declare oneself to learn her brother how to use his as - yet - unrevealed powers , she show her own power with the most superhuman of feats : strike hard a coterie of microwave oven Zea mays everta out of a vending machine .
Look , it ’s television , it ca n’t all be fancy CG .

Reed and his wife Caitlin ( Amy Acker ) are brought into school to deal with an subject about Andy , who is being fake by some unruly teens . Andy sweep it off , but it ’s not until some devious - looking factor show up at Caitlin ’s room access that we ’re shown it was a bit more than just Andy being beaten up .
Andy ’s powers manifest during what looks like some sort of school day dance that Lauren is also at , expose both as mutants . Andy ’s powers are n’t really explained specifically in this dawdler , but it ’s obvious that he ’s powerful , and has some sort of telekinetic ability as he ’s catch warping shower component and bust automatonlike creatures apart subsequently in the trailer .
Reed is on the phone with Sean Teale ’s character , discussing the “ mutant incident ” that involved his kids . Teale isplaying a young mutant make specifically for the shownamed Marcos Diaz , codename Eclipse . We do n’t really see it in this trailer , but Eclipse ’s power is to manipulate photons . Every mutant manipulates stuff in this world , obviously .

But we do get a fast glimpse of a more conversant mutant , and perhaps the only character in this trailer who actually looks like they ’re out of a comic book : Blink ( Jamie Cheung)!Renamed Clarice Fong for the show , Blink has the powers of teleportation , which is handy as she ’s been described as being part of the underground mutant resistivity the Struckers turn to .
Lauren uses her power again to push some car away during a chase sequence . Meanwhile , everyone in the Strucker household is distressed because of the whole “ Oh my god we ’re sport and my dad helps put mutants in jail ! ” thing .
See ? Sad people .

Reed declares his family is more important to him than his line of work , while Polaris belong on the attack . She still has hair here , so there are presumptively two timelines in play during the dawdler : a flashback to Polaris ’ capture before she meets Reed that give us some mutant activeness , and then the Strucker family going on the running after Lauren and Andy ’s power become public .
During this we also get a brief glimpse of Blair Redford ’s character , known only as “ Sam ” when he was first mold . He’sbelieved to bevery inadequate - time X - Men phallus John Proudstar , a.k.a . Thunderbird ( he died after two mission ) .
occultation comes in with the most intriguing line of the whole lagger : “ The hug drug - Men , the Brotherhood , we do n’t even know if they exist any longer . ” The Gifted ’s kinship with the wider X - Men universe , be that the films or the comics , but showrunner Matt Nix has previously said that the show is designed to side - step some interrogation about where certain famous X - valet are during its timeline , while still being in the same world as them . The reply seems to be that , at some level in the past before the government decided to commence detaining every variation they could find , the X - Men and the Brotherhood of Mutants apparently vanished off the face of the earth . commodious , that .

Our hero are on the face of it cornered by Jace Turner ( Coby Bell ) , an agent task with hunt down sport for the regime that is presumably link up to Reed ’s old task . Notice the troupe name on his undershirt though : “ Sentinel Services . ” In the strip , and movies , the Sentinels are of course giant predominate robots deployed by a variety of groups plan to track , hunt down , and now and again kill mutant . They ’re a long - place upright staple of the X - Men canyon , and we ’ve known for a while that they would be showing up in The Gifted , “ though very different from what we ’ve seen before”according to producer Lauren Shuler Donner …
And what we see is in spades very unlike from what you ’d expect when you pick up “ Sentinel . ” It looks like the show ’s sentinels will be lank , automaton trailer that can both skip around like spiders or even roll towards their victims before latching on to them … or at least attempt to , before Eclipse blast one by .
The relaxation of the trailer move by very cursorily , as we cut between what looks like two unlike mutant vs. government showdowns : the Struckers with Eclipse and Blink running away from the Sentinels , and Polaris and mayhap - Thunderbird in a gunplay with the police .

It ’s made to look like this is all part of one tumid successiveness , but view it seems like Polaris is captured before the Struckers go on the run , they ’re presumably two disjoined incidents . At least we get to see two fun moments of mutant power activeness — Blink open a teleportation windowpane :
And Andy controlling his exponent to pull a mathematical group of Sentinels aside :
One name drop of the title later from Caitlin ( “ This is a burden , yes , but it ’s also a talent ! ” ) , and we get one final moment between Eclipse and Reed , with the mutant asking Reed about what information he has about Polaris , flashing back to her capture .

Both Eclipse and Redford ’s character were also there , so there ’s by all odds two freestanding scenes at play in the last section of the trailer . And probably some tension on the purview , as presumptively Eclipse does n’t have it off Reed play a part in her capture .
While our first look at The Gifted does n’t really tell us much more than what we ’ve known ever sincethe serial was first unveiled , it paint a pretty grim picture for mutant - kind going into the show . No tenner - man , not even a Brotherhood , and wispy government forces hunting them down . Seems like the Strucker family and their Modern mutant booster will have a lot to deal with all by themselves when The Gifted begins on Fox this fall .
