Sometimes it ’s light to bury that Facebook , as a society , is meant to be an innovator in fields beyond surveillance . But the announcement that it has created an wholly new whole of time is a squeamish reminder that the tremendous company , which owns both WhatsApp and Oculus VR , is more than just one of the largest undercover agent apparatuses in history .
The new building block of clock time — announced on Twitterand availablevia Github — is known as Flicks , and was specifically created to be used by visual effect artists knead in the mediums of film , TV , and picture .

It ’s interesting to note this unit of measurement of time was create by an employee of of Oculus ’s Story Studio , a VR - focused picture studio , and was release through the Oculus VR ’s Github repository — not through Facebook itself . VR filmmaking is still in its babyhood . compare to traditional filmmaking , it ’s still at The Great Train Robbery phase . There have n’t been any transcendent pieces of workplace from VR that radically change how audiences and artists approach the medium . There ’s been no Citizen Kane yet . But Flicks is proof that the VR filmmaking studio is at least prove to move towards a nerveless new futurity .
