What to do when you ’re not quite the most popular girl but so urgently want to be prom poove ? Start trashing Ms. Perfectpants behind her back ! Normal enough for high schooling . Kind of wretched if you ’re Facebook .
The Daily Beastreports todaythat the mask has been pulled off of the Scooby - Doo goliath that ’s been feeding anti - Google propaganda to journos these last few sidereal day , revealing Old Man Facebook ’s withered visage behind the whole matter . The company hired hotshot public relations firm Burson - Marsteller to root on major news outlets to take a very closelipped look at Google ’s privacy policy . Bad Facebook , bad ! :
Confronted with evidence , a Facebook spokesman last nighttime confirmed that Facebook hired Burson , cite two reasons : First , because it believe Google is doing some thing in social networking that recruit privacy business ; second , and perhaps more important , because Facebook resent Google ’s attempt to use Facebook data in its own social - networking service .

The rootage cause , of course , was that Facebook feel the social sandbox is n’t big enough for both it and Google to trifle in . But the specific progeny that flack were flacking about was Google ’s Social Circle , which make public not just your ally ’s information , but all of that friend ’s friends details as well . Is that a headache ? Maybe ! But probably not more so than Facebook ’s variousunfortunate privacy foraysinto the spirit of others .

The icing on top of this sordid bar ? One of the implicate Burson - Marsteller reps ( which , hey , they were just doing their jobs ) was none other than former CNBC newsman and longtimeobject of Gizmodo derision Jim Goldman !

So the whole matter ’s ill-gotten and sordid and lame , and leave some superpoked ball on Facebook ’s , um , nerve . The joyful irony , if you were looking for that , is that the ending result of it all is going to be not just Facebook ’s report getting dinged pretty hard , but a renewed look at its own privacy problems . It may not place them to the back of the course . But they just drop off my vote for most probable to succeed . [ The Daily Beast ]
