British bookseller Waterstone has somehow catch its hands on the original story synopsis that George R.R. Martin submit to Harper Collins along with the first 170 pages of what would become A Game of Thrones . It proves GRRM had a very different story in creative thinker when he first define out to write A Song of Ice and Fire .
AsWinterIsComing.netpoints out , Martin begins the outline with “ As you get it on , I do n’t outline my novel . I get hold that if I know exactly where a book is going , I lose all interest in write it . ” Certainly , even though he thought he knew some of what was going to happen in his dear fantasy series , he ended up writing something quite different .
Do n’t worry — this outline does n’t hold the ending of the books , or any spoilers at all — at least thanks to one conveniently melanise out paragraph . Mainly , it ’s just a fascinating looking at at what might have been .

For those who do n’t need to go through the trouble of really reading the thing , here ’s some highlights :
• The serial publication seemed a like a much more straight - forward phantasy retelling of the Wars of the Roses , with the Starks and the Lannisters standing in for the Lancasters and the Yorks . The only other House even mentioned is Baratheon , and only in full term of Joffrey .
• Jaime is way more evilness here , pop his way through his home until he becomes the king .

• Sansa splice Joffrey and betrays her family , and it does n’t go well for her . This is obviously something Martin was originally building up to in the first book , but then changed his mind , and Sansa ’s been getting hoot for it ever since .
• There was run short to be a love trilateral between Jon Snow , Arya and Tyrion . I am completely fine with this not cease up in the ruined product .
Neat hooey ! But I mean we can all consort that what GRRM in reality ended up with is a far superior story .
