We ’ve had our ups and downs with Revolution thus far . We liked a circle of stuff and nonsense in the pilot burner , and the idea of a post - apocalyptic show that ’s swashbuckling rather than mopey is pretty wiz . The installment with Mark Pellegrino as a soldier who uses his men as shank fodder was superb . But there has also been some not - solely - successful attempts at name Charlie , the teenage missy with the unnaturally wide-eyed heart , into the loveable lynchpin of the mathematical group who pretend everybody ’s life more literal by just being Charlie .

We ’ve extend to go for that Revolution would receive its groove and start delivering the addictive “ dangerous undertaking in the barren ” action that the pilot promised . And last night ’s sequence was a major leap ahead , with some truly great moment and a memorable villain . Revolution is get going to become a seriously fun piece of television . Hope , raised .

So the expert minute , by far , in last night ’s instalment came when Uncle Miles ( Billy Burke ) confronts the malefic psychotic person Strausser ( David Meunier ) , who ’s the one individual that scared Miles when he was running the whole militia . Miles says that back before the lights get out , Strausser would have been locked up in a rubber room , or big . To which Strausser responds , “ Did you ever deliberate that maybe was company was sick , not me ? ” And Miles , without skip over a beat , says , “ No , I never reckon that . ” Something about Billy Burke ’s silly face during this scene , and Miles ’ absolute refusal to include that there ’s any sort of moral or social relativism here , just completely slew me and deliver the goods me over .

And the sleep of the episode is pretty great too — it ’s really true that you ’re only as good as your villain , a lot of the time . Strausser has been sent to hunt down Miles and get the wizard pendent that can restore electrical energy ( at least , in a small vicinity on its own — with the other pendants , perchance it can do more . ) He has Nora ’s sister Mia as a prisoner ( more on that in a moment ) but Miles and the others succeed in rescue Mia by blowing up everything . Strausser responds by kill one of his subordinates , Darth Vader - style . ( Note : If Strausser seems too mellowed about clobber , just take to the woods for it . You ’re already all in . ) Strausser finally does get postponement of the pendant , and almost captures Miles — but he escapes because Nora comes back for him .

aboveboard , one keystone to making this show the addictive dangerous undertaking it needs to be is to have all of us agree that Uncle Miles is the chief grapheme . Whenever Billy Burke gets to rock out — as he does a lot in this installment — he passably much steals the show . Miles is the one who realizes that they ’re walk into a ambush when they taste to walk across the Only Bridge for a Hundred Miles , and make out up with a design to escape . When Strausser demands the pendant in income tax return for Mia , Miles immediately seek to destroy it , which is a sensible move but sadly does n’t play . Miles is also the one who decides their only pick is to rise into a falls , at the end of the sequence , which is always a great move . ( Oh , and I almost forgot the look on Miles ’ face when he says he ’ll probably never see Nora again , when she ’s leaving with her sister . )

Billy Burke is clearly coming into his own as Miles , and he ’s unendingly watchable as an browned off , cranky , resourceful , snarky badass who has done some terrible things and is trying not to dwell on them too much . Most express , if they ’re lucky , get to have one breakout fictional character , and it ’s looking like this show ’s is going to be Miles .

Meanwhile , Charlie — the ostensible main quality of Revolution — does n’t have as much to do this instalment , but she ’s used well . The main bit where Charlie shines is when Nora is torn between run with her sister Mia to find their long - missing male parent , or prevent her promise to help Charlie get to her brother Danny . Charlie ravage absolutely clip making tragic “ sad duck ” faces , and alternatively does the only becoming matter — releases Nora from her hope , say that Nora should go find her pappa , because if Charlie could have one more minute with her own father , she would give anything . It ’s a reasonably sweet-scented moment , and also a moment of Charlie actually being lovable ( rather than characters endlessly telling us that Charlie is lovable , which happened a lot in premature episodes . )

So yes — Mia is a dual - track traitor , and it ’s telegraphed passably much the first moment we see her . Mia ’s sudden but inevitable treachery is well - toy , though . Instead of just contribute the crew into a trap , Mia disrobe her sister off with a bogus story about their father being live , and meanwhile pickpockets the legerdemain pendent from Google . ( Who , as Miles place it , ca n’t tell when a girl has her hired man in his pant . ) Then she hand the pendent over to Strausser , and expects Nora to get away with her — but of course , Nora is doing the ethical affair because she ’s exchange . And , in a serial of flashbacks , we see that Nora protected Mia after the blackout , and taste to keep their mom ’s death from Mia . And now Mia is trying to return the favor , also with the same amount of lying and deceit — but it does n’t work quite as well now that they ’re adult .

And meanwhile , the tardily - simmer “ Sebastian Monroe is losing his mind ” storyline makes a major spring forwards in this episode , with a welcome dose of plotting and machination . Tom Neville ’s son Jason ( formerly known as Nate ) is worried about Charlie because of Strausser ’s use of turning everybody into corroborative damage . So Jason tries to find out info on Strausser ’s plans — but gets catch and beaten to a pulp . Monroe plans to send Jason off to California , a slip he probably wo n’t retort alive from , in spitefulness of Tom Neville ’s entreaties .

But then Tom Neville ’s married woman Julia finds out from the maid that Monroe ’s 2d in instruction , Col . Faber , also has a wayward son — except that Faber ’s son is part of the Resistance and need to assassinate Monroe . Neville turns in Faber ’s nipper and narrowly turn away the assassination plot , causing Faber to precipitate from grace rather violently — and win a respite for Jason / Nate . And in the wake of that turnaround , Julia Neville get her Lady MacBeth on , suggesting that Monroe is losing his hairgrip and it ’s time for new leadership in the Monroe Republic . ( Would they have to rename it the Neville Republic ? ) This storyline looks like it ’s leading to some excellent opportunities for Giancarlo Esposito to be a sneaky bastard , which meets with my approval .

And finally , Bass catch detainment of the pendent and — because he ’s a trusting sort — give it over to Rachel . Who , presumably , wo n’t immediately devise an relief valve attempt that trust on electric equipment that only work when she has the pendant handy .

And we foreshorten to Grace Beaumont , another pendant - holder , who ’s still a prisoner of Randall . And we learn a few really major things : 1 ) Randall has a light - up single-valued function showing him the positioning of all the chandelier , and he live that Monroe has one of them now . 2 ) He expects Grace to be able-bodied to do something about this , somehow . 3 ) He has what looks like a massive supercollider — which could be very right away join with the fact that no engineering act upon anywhere .

So let ’s see . Billy Burke getting to be more of a sarcastic Han Solo case and thinking on his feet ? Check . Charlie being less annoying and more of a sympathetic character ? Check . A more compelling villain ? Yup . Intrigue and backstabbing involving Giancarlo Esposito ? Yes . And an uber - villain with a mysterious supercollider - esque gimmick ? Hell yes . Revolution may just be coming into its own at last .
