Walter Bishop becomes an animal - human loanblend , in this ludicrous scene from last dark ’s Fringe . But he ’s not the only one confronting a atrocious side of himself — last Nox ’s installment found a scary raw spin on the theme of dopplegangers .

Walter ’s transformation , we ’re tell , is temporary , but what about Peter ’s ?
At the start of the sequence , Peter come into contact lens with “ our ” interpretation of the ancient superweapon from the First People , and his simple mien coif it in frenetic motion . But the weapon also changes Peter somehow — it turns him into a psychotically proactive version who ’s uncoerced to do whatever it take to get answers . So this newly serious version of Peter tracks down all of the shapeshifters whom Fauxlivia had identified in her notes , down them and takes their data discs .
( There are a lot of things about this plotline that I ’m still unclear on — like :
how Peter decipher Fauxlivia ’s “ code ” before anyone else ,
how he got admission to her file in the first place ,
what info he specifically wanted from those data magnetic disk ,
why he did n’t tell his teammate what he was up to ,
why he only killed one shapeshifter at a time ,
why he stick to the order in which they were identified in Fauxlivia ’s notes .
Okay , so peradventure that last point is a bit frivolous — but if I ever have a listing of people whom I ’m killing one by one , I am going to check that to belt down the last person on the tilt first , just to confound everybody . )
Anyway , it ’s not clear what Peter ’s tangible agenda is , or exactly how he ’s been changed — but this young Peter is scary and manipulative , and Joshua Jackson is doing a smashing task of making with the shark eyes when he thinks citizenry are n’t pay attending . Walter says at the end of the episode that Peter has been “ weaponized ” :
So between the “ Walter becomes part chimpanzee ” plot line and the “ Peter becomes a maniac ” storyline , there ’s a distressful implication — it does n’t take much to change our behavior . And as much as we ’d wish to think our essential self - toughie is something apart from our bodies , it ’s not true at all — all you have to do is snort some chimpanzee blood serum or make out into contact with a superweapon that ’s genetically key to your DNA , and short you ’re a totally different someone . As Walter says at the death of the episode , all relationships are reciprocal , and you ca n’t have-to doe with something without being touched by it .
( Or to put it another way — if the Observers themselves were n’t open of observe without influencing the thing they observed , then what chance do us regular man have ? )
The third strand of the installment also had to do with someone ’s grotesque other — but in this case , the shock was n’t the difference of opinion in the “ colossus ” variation , but the similarities . I ’m referring , of class , to Fauxlivia — everybody builds her up in their mind to be this horrible individual . And I think PsychoPeter might even be sincere when he allege that he thinks she conned him and probably thought he was a soft touch .
It ’s comforting to think that Fauxlivia was just a account demon — but then when Olivia lastly read the forbidden diary of her doppelganger , she discover that it ’s weirdly familiar . Not only did Fauxlivia have real affection and maybe even love for Peter , but in general she thought like Olivia . The two Olivias see things the same way and use the same language to key out their look — because their similarities are n’t just physical but deeper and more of the essence . Being physically the same makes them the same individual , in some important ways .
( And no , I ’m not going to gloat that the terminus “ Fauxlivia ” has seemingly become the canonical terminal figure for her , after wecoinedthatnicknameback in May . Not even remotely gloating . You do have to accept it ’s better than “ Bolivia , ” anyway . )

So it ’s a warning tale for the next time you want to simulate Walter Bishop and start injecting yourself with random chemical . change your body changes who you are , in some fundamental ways — and conversely , if you see someone who was physically the same as you , they would most likely portion out more than just a resemblance with you .
Other random things that jump out at me : neat bit of mismanagement by making Brandon such a prominent persona this metre around . The last metre we saw him , alt - Brandon was assay to dissect Olivia , so of line we ’re quick to stand out to conclusions . ( And Olivia did n’t even shrink when she walk into a elbow room with him . She is too cool . )
Also , Walter is showing serious signs of starting to throw his weight around at Massive Dynamic , and since he happened to be right about Dr. Falcon being a forged testicle , his demands for random people to fall behind their job are only going to get more strident .
Apparently Fauxlivia went from not know who Bono was to being a huge U2 fan !
Somebody needs to write a dissertation , or a food blog , about Fringe and solid food . you’re able to separate Peter ’s become evil because he ’s eating peanut butter and jelly deep at night , while Walter ’s personality transformation is expressed through bananas , culminate in what calculate like the greatest banana split ever .
And … . that ’s about all I can think of decently now . get ’s hope that the “ evil Peter ” storyline is going someplace cool and is n’t just a random diversion to keep the wheels spin until we actually run into the First People and find Walternate ’s architectural plan . All in all , though , this was an installment that kept me going “ damn ! ” every few minute — and it ’s really awful that for a series with just three major characters , Fringe negociate to keep startle us over and over again .
