Louis Tomlinsonreflected on the loss of his mother, and how shelives on in his music, in an interview recorded last month, just five days before his 18-year-old sisterdied of a suspected cardiac arrest.

In the interview, which aired on Thursday, the singer, 27, opened up about hispowerful song “Two of Us,”which pays tribute to his late mother Johannah Deakin, who died after a battle with leukemia on Dec. 7, 2016.

Tomlinson went on to share that in addition to the heartfelt lyrics, the song, which is the first single off his debut album, packed another subtle tribute to his late mother.

“My mum was always obsessed with the idea of me playing piano, and they said, ‘What about playing the opening verse on piano?’ And normally I might have said no, but it really, knowing that she liked that idea and having that with this song … I just kind of zoned in on that idea and just really went for it, and I think I pulled it off,” he said.

During the interview, Tomlinson also shared that his 3-year-old son Freddie Reign, whom he shares with exBriana Jungwirth, has helped him get past his grief.

“I have said a few times, it’s the responsibility side of things that have made the process a little bit easier for me,” he shared.

“You feel so much love and it doesn’t matter what’s going on, in that moment that’s all you are thinking about. Those times with him are priceless,” he added.

Tomlinson’s sister Félicité passed out after a suspected cardiac arrest at her apartment in Earls Court, West London on March 13. When emergency responders arrived, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Although Tomlinson has yet to publicly address his sister’s death, his younger twin sisters Phoebe and Daisy Tomlinson have both shared their ownemotional tributes.

“Words don’t even begin to describe how shocked and broken hearted we all are,” Phoebe, 14, began her message. “You were my best friend, sister, motivator and person that could make me laugh until I cried. I’m lost without you and the thought of never seeing you again scares me like you wouldn’t believe.”

“No words will come close to explaining how broken I am, once again. My precious sister. My heart is bleeding. I keep imagining and praying they have the wrong person. Not my sister, my best friend,” she began.

“Mama needed you. i hope you are happier up there with her,” she concluded. “make sure you don’t forget about us. keep us in your conversations. i have two angels now, watching over me. i can’t wait to make you both so proud of me.”
