For her wedding to Prince Harry,Meghan Marklechose a very special piece fromQueen Elizabeth’sspectacular jewelry box: theQueen Mary Diamond Bandeau tiara.

And less than one month after the wedding, Meghan and the Queenshowcased their bondwith a day-long outing.

On ThursdayThe Sunclaimed the monarch, who turns 93 this month, has prohibited the Duchess of Sussex from borrowing some of the jewelry in the Royal Collection – including pieces that once belonged to Harry’s mother, Princess Diana.

But a closer look at the facts tells a very different story.

For starters, palaces sources point out that Meghan has worn pieces from the Royal Collection (namely the tiara) and may well do so in the future.

By the same token, since the wedding, Meghan has not had an occasion to wear Royal Collection jewelry. Female members of the royal family typically wear the historic jewelry for formal events like state banquets – and Meghan hasn’t yet attended any.

The most recent state visit was held in October for King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands.Kate Middletonwore her go-to tiara, theLover’s Knot,on loan from the Queen. Sometimes referred to as the Cambridge Lover’s Knot, it is one of the best-known tiaras in the British royal family’s collection and was a favorite ofPrincess Diana.

Of course, Meghan and Harry were in the middle of their tour of Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand at the time, so they did not attend.

Meghan wore the earrings again in September, when she joined Harry at theWellChildAwards.

“Harry and I had gone to Buckingham Palace to meet with Her Majesty The Queen to select one of the options that were there, which was an incredibly surreal day as you can imagine,” Meghan shared in a personal recording for anexhibition displaying their wedding looksat Windsor Castle.

Harry added that choosing the diamond-and-platinum bandeau tiara was an easy decision.
